Dear Christopher,

Thank you.

It appears to me that Sudbury Valley would offer freedom whether it was
educational or not.
It appears to me that offering freedom is not a type or form of pedagogy.
So, in my view, Sudbury Valley is doing something really quite different than
schooling.

It gets all the educational and growth benefit for free, as it basically
moves beyond education and solves a much deeper question. This question is:
"What is it that we can actually do that would be useful to the child?". The
answer turns out to be non-trivial, non-obvious, and stunning. The answer is
nothing. (See The Art of Doing Nothing by Hanna Greenburg). There is simply
nothing to be done. Oh, but there is art, and so with all our grace and
kindness offer nothing.

Deep Regard,
Bill Richardson
