Yes, dawn, if I in any way seemed to encourage people to use "the white man
is keeping us down" excuse I wasn't articulating my ideas well. On the
contrary I think that especially minority kids need to learn to understand
and get along in the majority culture in order to survive in it. Moreover,
they have to do it without losing their own identity. It is possible to do
as any study of history will show. (I am too tired to show proof right now
and I don't think its needed, numerous examples should come to mind without
me citing them.
As for the diversity within the school, it is true that every person is
different in many ways and in a place where one is respected a priori, the
differences are encountered and embraced rather that hidden. Still, I see
that there is a commonality of culture that if you don't belong to it you
feel lonely in it and that is what I was talking about.
Enough talk it is time to go to sleep.
