I don't know of any formal "studies", but I know that Lisa Lyons from
Evergreen School in Maine wrote a piece called "Staying Strong" that
discusses girls' experiences at a Sudbury type school.
I'll share one anecdote told to me by an SVS staff member. One time she
paused in front of a door to one of the rooms at SVS. There her son was
sitting in the middle of the floor sewing, surrounded by a bunch of girls.
What was remarkable was that no one - not the girls, not the son, not the
son's male friends - thought that this was unusual whatsoever.
I'm not sure exactly what you are concerned about, but I will say that as a
result of my own personal observations from visiting SVS and The Circle
School in PA, I did not see anything which bothered me.
Could you be more specific about your concerns?
