My experience, and what I read, concurs with you, Dale. A slightly different
spin is that these folks feel that they already get stuck with what the
majority culture casts off and don't want to be "experimented on" with
alternative education. The traditional system may be oppressive (so what
else is new, they say), but at least it is a known ticket out of what can be
extremely dire circumstances, both psychologically and physically.
