Eight year study etc

Jerry Mintz correctly points to the recent mention of the study in
Raywid's article in his Almanac, for which he and she are to be
congratulated. As Bruce Smith said so poignantly, we are usually reluctant
to learn from our history, whether in world affairs or in education.
Unfortunately, Raywid -- who was presumably surveying the pitifully small
amount of research on alternative education -- did not herself research or
see fit to mention one of the more recent broad studies, "Legacy of Trust",
published by Sudbury Valley School Press (it can be ordered through the SVS
web page, www.sudval.org, or through the school -- email to firstname.lastname@example.org or
fax to 508-788-0674 or snail mail to 2 Winch Street, Framingham, MA 01701).
This major study not only discusses at length the emergent story of some 200
graduates of Sudbury Valley School, but also includes the texts and results
of earlier studies of the school's graduates. It is a fascinating look at
what becomes of students in Sudbury-model schools, and well worth reading for
anyone interested in such material.
